10.19.09 Candia Fatalities a tragic reminder of the importance of smoke detectors:
The Candia fire first dispatched to Police as a 911 hangup. Arriving officers found smoke showing, and moments later the building was fully involved. Clearly the occupants of the home were conscious and alert during some portion of the growth of the fire in the home, but had inadequate time to exit the building the safely. SMOKE DETECTORS DO SAVE LIVES!!!!
Please take the time to verify that you have functional smoke detectors throughout your home, and that the detectors test successfully and have fresh batteries. If you need assistance with the installation, location, or testing or your detectors, please call the Station, or come by on any Thursday evening and we would be happy to answer any questions you might have. We would be more than happy to assist you with the installation of your detectors.

Kensington Volunteer Fire Department and Rescue
Emergency services for the town of Kensington are provided by the Kensington Volunteer Fire Department (KVFD). The department is staffed entirely by volunteers who provide fire protection and emergency medical services. The town of Kensignton is a member of the Interstate Emergency Units (IEC), a mutual aid pact comprised of 46 towns in the seacoast and surrounding area. The pact provides for mutual aid support between Kensington and our surrounding communities. Exeter Hospital has two paramedics on call 24-hours a day who provide additional support for medical emergencies to all of the surrounding communities.
The Kensington Volunteer Fire Department Association has about 35 members (fire and rescue combined). Only about 20 of our members are active emergency responders. This small group of volunteers currently protects the homes and well being of all 1900 people living in the town of Kensington. As our town continues to grow the commitment of each of the volunteers also grows. Our membership must keep pace with the growth in our town or we will be faced with a crisis of too few volunteers.
Although the KVFD is a volunteer organization we have recently found it necessary to provide some monetary compensation based on an individuals level of participation. Last year the average amount of compensation for an active member was about $1800. For more detailed information on this compensation plan please speak to any department member.
